Going to a Christening . . . Gift?

My friends are Christening their twins this Sunday. It's a high m followed by a party at the VFW. I was going to just slip them a card with some cash. Is there a guideline about this? Is that proper etiquette? Do I need to even do that? If so, is there a sort of monetary guideline insofar as how much to gift?
